This semester I am in a fortunate position of being able to continue my work in ODS in a formal capacity. Originally I was going to spend a few hours a week helping out and meeting with student overflow due to the high number of students registered with the office. Unfortunately at the end of fall semester we found out that two staff members would need to have surgery over the winter holiday and it was unclear when they would return. Because of this situation I am able to spend quite a few hours a week in the office meeting with students of the specialists who are out on medical leave.
I am honestly somewhat nervous knowing that I will have even more responsibility than last semester. Last semester I had a few of my own students and a few from each of the other specialists. This semester it seems that I will have a full roster of students from the two specialists on medical leave as well as my own roster of students.
I'm looking forward to the challenge and the expanded learning experience. What I hope to do this semester is practice my helping skills even more and enhance some of them. I also hope to spend time learning about specific disabilities that I may not have focused on in the context of higher education.
